How Liza became an API Specialist just 8 months after beginning her coding journey with SheCodes Plus React.
🙍♀️ Before SheCodes
Liza is a motivated SheCoder that has wanted to learn how to code for a while but didn’t know where to begin. She’s from Russia and is currently living in the Netherlands. She enjoys attending music festivals and concerts in her free time. 🎶 Liza got a Bachelor’s degree in Philogy from St. Petersburg State University. She is definitely a woman of many interests!
She first became interested in coding years back, but was nervous to get started and thought she wouldn’t have the time to learn in her busy life.
“I always wanted to learn how to code but was afraid that it was too complicated, and also that I could not combine studying with a full time job. I was googling a lot and everything related to coding was on a full-time basis.”
Then, she came across SheCodes on social media and found it to be the perfect way for her to learn how to code thanks to the flexible schedule and manageable workload. 🙌
“SheCodes was the perfect solution. I could code once a day, even 30 minutes, every day. I had my second child in April 2020, and started with SheCodes in September. With two small kids, I managed to find at least 30 minutes a day to achieve my coding goals.”
👩💻 Her SheCodes Experience
What really drew Liza to SheCodes was the community. She was also drawn by the program itself and the teaching format. She quickly became very passionate about coding and the teaching methods motivated her to learn more and more. 💪 💻
“I got addicted to coding. The way Matt explains stuff is the key. He is kind and has a great talent in explaining.”
Liza says that compared to other online coding courses she’d tried in the past, SheCodes was a lot more interesting and easy to combine with a busy schedule. She also really enjoyed the feeling of the community.
“Many courses provide 2 hour seminars and lots of homework. They are also high quality but many of my friends who tried were not able to complete them, as they were almost falling asleep after one hour. SheCodes is easy to combine with your job, even with a kid and a baby in my case.”
Along with the flexibility of SheCodes, Liza also thoroughly enjoyed creating her own apps and utilizing APIs. She found the API integrations and connections to be quite amazing. She’s greatly enjoyed her SheCodes experience, and this brings such happiness to the team! 💜
“My favorite parts were creating the apps, and of course the API part. I was amazed how it’s all connected and could not stop thinking about the APIs.”

🙋 How SheCodes has Helped to Change Her Life
Thanks to the knowledge that Liza has gained in SheCodes, she is now working in a new job as an API specialist and is loving it! 🤩 👩💻 It’s amazing to think that she first fell in love with APIs thanks to SheCodes!

Liza is currently working as an API specialist at NextPax, an IT company that specializes in channel management solutions that is based in the Netherlands. She provides API support in technical, operational, and business field as a part of the product team. She and her team also investigate and report bugs and work closely with the development team.
“I work in close contact with developers, and this is where my experience in web development helps a lot.”
Liza says that her job now is different from her previous job in that she’s more challenged and is learning many more new things than she was previously. 🙌
“I worked for 5 years for Booking.com. It was also amazing. However as an API specialist I am learning so many new things. It’s more challenging, I love it.”
👩💼 Advice to Future SheCodes Student
Liza’s advice is to just block out a little bit of time every day and to watch the course videos multiple times if needed. Because even if you’ve got a busy schedule and a family like Liza, there’s always time for coding. We couldn’t agree more 😉
