The team at SheCodes really believes in the power of code and closing the gender gap in the industry. Bruno, one of our amazing technical assistants, even referred his sister Joana to our courses! If you’ve asked questions about your code on our slack channel or had your homework checked, you may have talked to Bruno! 😊

We were so excited to welcome Joana in the SheCodes community and so happy she found a job in tech soon after graduating! 👩‍💻 

She lives in Portugal, where she spends her free time watching series and movies, gaming, and cooking. 👩‍🍳 Since was a kid, she has enjoyed working with computers and always wanted to learn more about how they work. 

Joana’s favorite part about our coding workshops was using her creative side on her designs. When you learn how to code, you can really unleash your imagination on the webpage and create unique webpages and apps. 🎨

The opportunity to chat with the passionate SheCoders from around the world made for a one-of-a-kind learning experience. 

“I really enjoyed everything in the workshops, but I confess that the design part was my favorite. I enjoyed the workshop, it was very easy to learn and great to work and interact with other women in tech. The experience was great, I feel that I am a part of a community now.”

Although she thought the content on other coding platforms was useful, there was something missing when she learned with them. The technical support and the welcoming community feeling of SheCodes were essential to her learning journey.

“I've tried with freecodecamp.... It's great but it doesn't have the same interaction and support.”

It’s not just the interactive platform that Joana appreciated. The coding languages and concepts she learned in the SheCodes workshops were the perfect foundation for a job in tech. 👩‍💻

Joana found the job on LinkedIn and has been loving the perks often found in tech jobs. She has the freedom to work from home and enjoys the friendly company culture.  The company recognized the high potential Joana had due to her coding knowledge and is now training her on QA testing.

“It's very different since I was a tech recruiter, now I have more freedom because I'm working from home and I'm loving the new job, the people are great, and I feel that I really belong.“

“When I did the challenges, I barely needed to check for similar problems, I think that Matt explains every lesson perfectly and in a way that everyone can understand, and I think it's exactly what a beginner needs.”

Plus:
“The lessons are very easy to understand, the way that Matt is showing how it's done at the same time that he explains what he's doing, makes much easier to understand!”

React:
“I've done all of SheCodes Workshops, and I think the React one has been more challenging. However, I also feel it was the most satisfying to complete. Thanks to the entire team for helping so many women to pursue this career, and thank you for all the support!”

Responsive:
