How SheCodes helped Susanna transition from Google Ads Specialist π to Frontend Developer π©βπ»
πββοΈ Before SheCodes
Originally from Ukraine and now based in Vienna, Austria, Susanna πΊπ¦ is someone who lights up around creative problem-solving, design, and the challenge of learning something new. Outside of work, she loves cycling, spending time with her dog, and getting her hands on new tech tools just to see what they can do. One thing that says a lot about her: the moment she discovered CSS, she became its biggest fan. π² πΆ
Before her SheCodes journey, Susanna worked as a Google Ads specialist. She managed advertising campaigns, advised clients on how to strengthen their ad performance, made website optimization recommendations, and worked closely with IT teams to align on the technical side of things.
Even though she was good at what she did, Susanna felt ready for a new challenge, one that would build on everything she already knew while giving her more room for creativity and autonomy. She had become increasingly curious about the technical side of websites, especially how design shapes the way people experience them. That curiosity is what pushed her toward frontend development.
π©βπ» Her SheCodes Experience
Susanna first came across SheCodes on social media, where she noticed the community's commitment to making coding accessible, especially for women. She was drawn to both the mission and the quality of the program. Thanks to financial support through the SheCodes Foundation, joining became possible, and being accepted meant a great deal to her.Β
What stood out most was how engaging the learning felt. Every assignment pushed her to think critically and put new concepts into practice right away. She found Matt's explanations clear and relatable, which made even complex topics click. Her biggest highlight came when she completed her very first coding project, a moment that felt like a real personal breakthrough.Β
One moment she remembers vividly was the first time she debugged a tricky piece of React code while building the weather app. She could not work out how to pass fetched data through her components, and she spent hours troubleshooting. When it finally clicked into place, the feeling was unforgettable. π»Β
βMattβs explanations were clear and relatable, making complex topics easy to grasp. My biggest highlight was successfully completing my first coding project β it felt like a huge personal breakthrough.β
π How SheCodes has Helped to Change Her Life
Thanks to SheCodes, Susanna landed her current role as a Frontend Developer. What began as a growing curiosity about the technical side of websites has turned into her day-to-day work: she now builds and maintains web interfaces, implementing new features, refining user experiences and interfaces, and collaborating closely with the backend developer to make sure users receive the correct data and the best possible service.Β
The skills she picked up at SheCodes show up in that work constantly. The structured way Matt taught debugging and code organization has made her work much smoother, and the introduction to version control tools and practical problem-solving approaches has been invaluable on team projects.Β
The impact reached beyond her job, too. SheCodes gave Susanna a real boost in confidence, not just in coding but in learning new skills and taking on challenges well outside her comfort zone. It showed her that with the right mindset, she could adapt and thrive in completely new fields.Β
"SheCodes boosted my confidence in learning new skills and tackling challenges outside of my comfort zone. It showed me that with the right mindset, I could adapt and succeed in completely new fields.β
π©βπΌ Advice to Future SheCodes Student
Susanna's advice to future SheCodes students comes straight from her own experience: mistakes are not something to fear, they are part of how you learn. When she started, she reminded herself to slow down, stay curious, and treat every challenge as a chance to grow.Β
"Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Coding is all about learning through trial and error. Take your time, ask questions, and remember that each challenge is an opportunity to grow." πͺβ¨
From a brand new field to a real developer role. That is something to be proud of, Susanna. π
