Marie

Marie was born and raised in the southwest of France and now lives in Berlin with her boyfriend and 2-year-old son! She loves art and crafts 🎨, travelling, surfing 🏄‍♀️ and going out with her friends!

Before SheCodes, she worked as a content manager for a company specializing in the digitalization of promotional catalogs. She was in charge of quality control and publishing for online content.

But Marie felt like a career change... 💜

"My professional path is not very linear! I tried a lot of things and at almost 28 years old I still wasn't sure what I wanted to do, and what I was capable of doing. I was intrigued to learn how to code, as I loved web design, and I thought this could be a good choice of career."

I think a lot of people feel like this at some point! Marie happened to be browsing the internet and saw SheCodes adverts on YouTube and Facebook...

"I thought that being a developer required to having a master's degree, and found the tech industry quite hostile to women. When I saw the SheCodes ad, I thought that this was the perfect opportunity to try it, and maybe this would end up changing my professional life - and it did!"

Marie found that SheCodes arrived at the ideal time for her - it was during Covid restrictions, she was pregnant and had lots of time at home to study! ⏳

"I could follow the lessons and work on the challenges online. I started with the introductory course just to check the content and if I liked it. And ended up completing all the available workshops!"

Marie's favorite aspect of learning with SheCodes was the support of the online community - we have fellow students from all around the world on Slack, ready to offer help and solutions! 🤗

"Even though I was not attending classes for real, I felt that the community was very welcoming and supportive. And the amount of knowledge I gained in a few months made me feel proud of myself."

Imagine starting from scratch, knowing only the basics of how to code, and then learning enough that you can then work as a teacher to help other people learn how to code for the first time. 👩‍💻

Marie doesn't have to imagine that, because she's actually doing it! 🙌

Marie's advice? If you fail or make mistakes, keep going - and make sure coding is always enjoyable!

"Don't feel defeated if you don't understand everything immediately. It's completely normal. You'll get there. Keep coding, keep learning at your own pace, and have fun."
