How SheCodes Plus React helped Rajinder alter her career path to Product Design
🙍♀️ Before SheCodes
Rajinder is a SheCoder originally from Kent, England, currently living in southeast London. She likes to spend her free time going to the planetarium with her daughter, eating out, socializing with friends, and enjoying cocktails. 🌔 🍽 🍹 She has a strong background in healthcare and healthcare management. She received a Bachelor of Science, specializing in Radiography, and went on to work in healthcare for 20 years.
She then decided that she wanted to change careers. Her role in radiotherapy was very tech-oriented and she realized that she enjoyed working with technology. Her sister is a software engineer and told her about the job possibilities associated with coding! 😄
“I worked in healthcare for 20 years. I decided that I wanted to change careers. Radiotherapy is very technology orientated. I enjoyed working with ever-evolving tech as it stops your working life from becoming stagnant. My younger sister is a software engineer and I've always enjoyed hearing about what she does, so I used her as a sounding board for different roles in tech and as the building blocks of pretty much everything, coding was one of the first things that came up.”

Rajinder was searching for a coding course that would easily fit into her life. Rajinder’s sister referred her to SheCodes and she found that the schedule offered was perfect for her. She decided to jump into the world of coding! We’re happy she began her coding journey with SheCodes!! 💜

“Matt is a great teacher. The method of learning, watching lesson videos, and then doing challenges suited me as I have always learnt by doing. Whenever I needed help, I would turn to Slack and there would be other students and the ever present technical assistants on hand to helped me figure out where I was going wrong. Going on to solve problems was just an amazing feeling. I really felt a massive sense of achievement throughout the course.”
“I would watch lessons on my commute home so that I had a bit of time to think them over and then once my daughter was in bed would come back and complete the lessons. This style of learning was so flexible and fit in around everything else I had going on, even my full time job. Also, the courses are so affordable, especially considering you have access to it all afterwards.”
🙋 How SheCodes has Helped to Change Her Life
Rajinder says that SheCodes helped her get to where she is today and filled her with the confidence to make a career change. 🙌 She is now a Product UX/UI Designer and is constantly improving her UX skills and adding to her portfolio.
“I wouldn't be where I am now without SheCodes, I'm very grateful for what it's given me. At a time where I didn't have a lot of confidence in myself, it showed me not only that I can learn but also that I can create! It gave me hope. SheCodes gave me the confidence boost I needed.”
Rajinder is currently looking for a role as a Product UX Designer. She’s well-equipped with her coding knowledge and design skills - we can’t wait to see the job that she lands! 😉 She said she’s looking forward to the changes she’ll have in her new job as a Product Designer, such as the increased flexibility.
“I finished SheCodes knowing that I would like to continue studying and more importantly- that I was capable of it. So after some research in tech roles that involved more interaction, I went on to complete another course in UX Design. I'm currently looking for my first role as a Product (UX) Designer.”
“Not working as a front-line healthcare worker will be a big change but one I am ready to embrace! There will be a lot more flexibility around working hours and location. Also, I love that tech is always evolving so there is always something more to learn and this will keep me engaged.”

Rajinder says that you won’t regret joining SheCodes even if you decide not to become a coder. Coding opens up countless possibilities and will prove to be useful in other ways! We like the way she’s thinking. 😉
