Romana's journey with SheCodes began after graduating in 2020 with a degree in Geology.Β
Uncertain about which career path to pursue, she recognized her aptitude for computer software, particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS).Β
Prior to her coding journey, Romana worked as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician in the Telecommunications industry, focusing on fiber network infrastructure. Her responsibilities involved designing network layouts in a GIS environment and creating design packs to support the construction phase of fiber projects.Β
During her university studies, Romana dabbled in coding and found it intriguing. So when she struggles to find a job during lockdown, she decided to explore her initial interest in coding further.Β
Little did she know that this choice would lead her to SheCodes and transform her career prospects. π
βLooking for jobs during lockdown was difficult so I opted to explore that initial interest - and I'm very glad I did as this led me to SheCodes and ultimately to where I am in my career today!β

Romana first heard of SheCodes several years before that when a friend recommended her our free online coding class, SheCodes Express.
Her experience with SheCodes was overwhelmingly positive. Romana debunked common misconceptions about short online courses, finding that SheCodes exceeded her expectations in every way. The sense of community, challenging and diverse lessons, and the opportunity to showcase her skills through projects all contributed to a well-rounded learning experience.Β
βSheCodes was a wholly positive experience. I think one might assume that when paying for a short online course it may mean that it a) isn't going to be very challenging, b) is going to lack support and depth of knowledge, and c) perhaps not have broad real world application... However, this couldn't be further from the fact with SheCodes.β
Romana appreciated the inclusive and accessible teaching approach and found the resources invaluable not only during the course but also in the real world. She was able to highlight her knowledge and skills in interviews, making her a standout candidate. What a student! πͺ
