Meet Jessica 🇺🇸! A cheerful resident of Washington state and a proud dog mom to two lovable pups, Emmie (a chihuahua/poodle mix) and Jynx (a Pembroke Welsh Corgi) 🐶. When she's not spending quality time with her family and friends, Jessica indulges in her hobbies of crocheting and training her dogs. She's also passionate about helping small businesses online by building their websites 👩‍💻.

Prior to her coding adventure, Jessica worked as a Mobile Test Engineer, where she manually tested mobile applications for both iOS and Android platforms. While she enjoyed her work, Jessica felt the drive to expand her skills even further. She was looking for a deeper understanding of coding to boost her confidence and effectiveness in her job. Specifically, she wanted to get a grip on the technical language used by developers.

"I wanted to learn to code to feel more confident in my abilities as a test engineer. A few of my goals included the ability to understand the terminology developers used when discussing issues and gain the ability to understand the scope of testing by understanding the code."

Jessica was looking for a program that focused on JavaScript, and this led her to the SheCodes Workshops. Her motivation was not only professional growth but also a personal goal to enhance the digital presence of her friends, family, and local small businesses. With enthusiasm and a clear vision for her future, she embarked on her coding journey, eager to transform her career and positively impact her community. 😄

Jessica's journey through the SheCodes workshops was nothing short of transformative! 🤩 She found the pace of the courses challenging yet completely manageable, which struck the perfect balance for her learning style. Previously, Jessica had felt out of her element and intimidated by other coding courses she tried. This changed when she watched our 60-Minute Free Coding Class by Matt and decided to take the plunge into SheCodes. She's thrilled she did because, for the first time, coding truly clicked for her. Jessica not only grasped the basics but also felt confident that she was learning coding best practices.

The community aspect of SheCodes was another highlight for Jessica. Being able to collaborate and learn alongside other students provided a supportive and enriching environment that helped her thrive. The workshops not only heightened Jessica's confidence as a test engineer but also enhanced her career success, both financially and in her capabilities at work. Jessica proudly shares that she now feels equipped to tackle any challenge that comes her way, confident in her ability to find solutions or know where to look for answers.

Currently, Jessica excels as a Senior Software QA Engineer, where she has impressively built two automation frameworks from scratch—one for a front-end application and another for a back-end application, using JavaScript. 👩‍💻 Her daily responsibilities are diverse and complex, involving fixing broken tests, creating tests for new features, filing bugs, executing both manual and automated tests, and reporting results to her team. She also actively engages with the compliance team.

"I am sure that if I hadn't completed SheCodes, I wouldn't feel as confident handling these tasks now!"

Jessica is confident that without the skills and confidence gained from SheCodes, she would not feel as capable of handling her current tasks. SheCodes truly transformed her professional life, turning her into a more skilled and self-assured engineer.

Jessica has some heartfelt advice for future SheCodes students. She encourages embracing the learning process, emphasizing that it's okay to make mistakes: "Perfect is not possible—and it's quite boring!". Jessica believes that mistakes are not just inevitable but they are one of the best ways to learn. She advises, "Just make sure you write tests so you can find those mistakes!"

She also stresses the importance of continuous learning, reminding students that everyone, even senior engineers who appear to have it all figured out, is always learning. According to Jessica, it's completely normal not to know everything.

Her final piece of advice is to be patient with yourself and believe in your abilities:
