Carla

Students come to learn with SheCodes for many different reasons. It might be based on a personal, not professional interest. It might be that you want to change your career direction entirely. For Carla, it was a mix of both!

Carla is from Brazil and lives in Scotland. She loves reading 📖, hiking 🏔️ and spending time with her partner and two cats (we share the love for cats!) 😸

She has a background in biological sciences, specializing in protein structure, and was a postdoctoral researcher at Edinburgh University! Carla had always loved tech and was interested in learning how to code. However she felt demotivated, working long hours with little financial gain.

"I was burned out, with imposter syndrome and it was affecting my mental health. With the pandemic I got a bit more time to think about my future and learn how to code...web development seemed fun and a good start, so I was very interested when I heard about SheCodes."

Carla was already learning Python and had a strong interest in code, but by learning with SheCodes, she found a way to apply this interest. We often say the global community is also what makes SheCodes special - no matter when or where you are, you will be able to either speak to someone from the team or a fellow SheCoder for help. 🌎
 

Carla found that the technical knowledge she learned from SheCodes was valuable for her new career every day, especially using Git, applying Javascript and working with React. ⚛️ This also worked hand-in-hand with building self-belief - something we believe is essential to anyone wanting to pursue a career in tech!
