How coding knowledge has altered Goksen's career path

Goksen is originally from Turkey. She has a background in project management and has worked for various companies in related roles. Before SheCodes, she was working as a Digital Project Manager for a web agency. In this role, she worked very closely with a team of developers and designers, often cooperating on company projects.
“For the sake of meeting the deadlines of projects, I started to support my development team by taking on some tiny development tasks. I really enjoyed doing these tasks. I found it very rewarding.”
Hence, her interest in coding was sparked. She helped the development team with small tasks such as making code changes in HTML and CSS and she was hooked.

👩💻 Her SheCodes Experience
Goksen decided to pursue this passion of coding and begin her coding journey as a complete beginner. She tried some online coding courses but found that they weren’t what she was looking for. Then she joined a SheCodes Workshop online. She really enjoyed the curriculum, format, and set-up.

“SheCodes is doing a great job of keeping the students accountable, every challenge and homework comes with deadlines and they’re all reviewed by the instructor. I also found the Slack channel to be quite useful; we had the opportunity to ask questions and review other students’ code.”

🙋 How SheCodes has Helped to Change Her Life
SheCodes helped Goksen demystify the world of coding and open up new opportunities. She completed a SheCodes Workshop in November 2019 and then graduated from SheCodes Plus in February 2020. Having some coding knowledge altered Goksen's career trajectory and goals.
“I first joined the SheCodes beginner course to test myself and check if coding is something I like and if I can pursue it as a career in the future. After completing a SheCodes beginner course I wanted to learn more since I really enjoyed coding. So I quit my job and joined SheCodes Plus to become a web developer.”
She is now continuing her coding journey and is working towards becoming a Web Developer. Down the road, she has a dream of combining her previous management experience with her new development experience. 👏
“After working 2-3 years as a developer and getting some experience, I’d like to move to a role where I can combine my previous project management experience with my development experience and become a team leader in a company that builds awesome online products that solve people’s daily life problems.”
👩💼 Advice to Future SheCodes Student
Looking back on her SheCodes experience, she has no regrets. She gained a good coding foundation and understanding of the web development industry overall.
“Just go for it, don’t be scared, Matt will not only teach you coding but he will also explain to you everything you need to know about web development, tools and systems. After you complete SheCodes Plus you will reach a level where you can build complex applications from scratch.”
She now has a clear idea of what her coding future holds, and SheCodes helped her get there.
