How Samantha is Improving her work as a Communications Officer thanks to her new coding knowledge.
🙍♀️ Before SheCodes
Samantha is originally from Venezuela but currently lives in Dublin, Ireland. She has a BA in Communications, Media and Advertising and is a Communications Officer working for an environmental non-profit organization, ECO-UNESCO. Her days at work can vary a lot because her tasks span across many programs and departments in the organization. She helps deal with the press, social media and website management, design publications, and external communications. Her company is in the process of building an e-learning platform at the moment and she’s leading that project. Her diverse job role led her to garner a large interest in technological projects and coding, a skill that she began to see as necessary.
“I have been interested in coding for a while because I think it is a skill that everyone should know these days, at least the basics. I was especially curious to understand how websites and apps are made and how they work.”
To get her foot in the door to the coding world, Samantha began watching YouTube tutorials on how to code. But she felt a little lost and overwhelmed due to the inundation of information out there. Then she found SheCodes and it was just what she was looking for.
“I feel that there is so much info out there that you get lost easily. But SheCodes gives you a friendly structure.”
👩💻 Her SheCodes Experience
Samantha first heard about SheCodes through an ad on Instagram (“So lucky!”). She really enjoyed the set-up, coding work, and learning with other women. Her favorite part of SheCodes was the hands-on coding challenges that are completed throughout the workshop.
“I think the challenges were very exciting. I will never forget that very first screen that I created with code, I was so excited!”
“The methodology of the course is so friendly that nothing is complicated. The price and the friendly design of the website got my attention immediately. The women focused approach give you a sense of uniqueness that you can't find anywhere else.”
🙋 How SheCodes has Helped to Change Her Life
Almost immediately after beginning the SheCodes beginner workshop, Samantha was able to implement her new coding knowledge into her daily tasks at work. She became more self-sufficient and could complete more technical tasks on her own without having to wait to get help from the developers.
“The day after I started SheCodes, I could use my skills to execute website changes without the developer support. I feel that I gained a good understanding of how things work behind the scenes.”
“Now, I don't need to get in contact with support every time I have an issue at work. I can understand the problem and on some occasions, I'm able to solve it successfully.”
In her coding future, she’d like to deepen her coding knowledge and learn more design hacks to make well-designed sites.
👩💼 Advice to Future SheCodes Student
Samantha feels like SheCodes was a solid investment to expand her personal and professional skill set. She enjoyed the work and didn’t find it overly complicated for a subject that is often seen as quite difficult to grasp.
“JUST DO IT! This course is not too complicated and you will feel so empowered after finishing.”
