“I decided to step up in this career and have better opportunities. I knew I had to take a coding course in order to step up, and I was also just very interested - everybody was talking about it.”

She started with Codecademy and Udemy online to learn some coding basics. However, the online platform and learning at her own pace led to low motivation and she didn’t finish these courses. Then, she found SheCodes. Attending a course with an actual professor and deadlines gave her the motivation and structure she needed.

Cyrielle successfully graduated from a SheCodes Workshop in September 2018 before taking SheCodes Plus in October 2018. Since she was transitioning jobs at the time, she had low funds but was sure that SheCodes Plus would open up new career possibilities for her.

Coding with other women was a big perk for Cyrielle. She believes that SheCodes is a very good initiative because in her current company, nearly the entire technical team is made up of men.

“We are living in a technology revolution. If only men know this coding knowledge, we are never going to fill the gap, and we’re never going to reach this equality as best as we can.”

SheCodes Plus offered her new career possibilities in only six weeks.

Thanks to SheCodes, Cyrielle’s work life has greatly improved. She now works as a tech support engineer for Postman, a company based in San Francisco, USA that deals with tech development software.

Cyrielle now works remotely, with more opportunities and freedom than she had before. She can work from wherever she wants, the hours are very flexible, and there is a great working mentality at Postman. As a cherry on top, her salary is now twice as much as her previous salary.

She helps developers test and fix the issues in their API’s (Application Programming Interfaces) before they’re released. She solves technological puzzles every day - and SheCodes helped her get there.

In her opinion, knowing how to code goes hand in hand with criteria that recruiters are looking for, like: having good problem-solving skills, taking initiative to learn a difficult skill on your own, having a very structured mindset, and thinking logically.

“Don’t only consider the front-end developer career path. During my job search, when I started to add my coding knowledge to my CV - even very basic knowledge of what I had learned - I could tell that it meant a lot to companies that I had this knowledge.”
