How SheCodes Plus React helped Federica discover her passion for coding and start working as a front-end developer
🙍♀️ Before SheCodes
Federica is a passionate SheCoder from Italy who is currently living in Leeds, UK. She enjoys listening to music, reading, cooking, skiing, and traveling in her free time. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Heritage, followed by a Postgraduate degree in Management of Cultural Events and a CIM Award in Digital Marketing. Following her studies, she gained work experience in customer support and digital marketing. Federica first became interested in coding while she was studying marketing. 👩💻
“My interest in coding started during a marketing course I was taking in 2019. The project I was developing involved the implementation of digital marketing strategies to convert customers online. During the development of my project, I gradually became interested in Websites, SEO and UX and wanted to learn the basics of coding.”

Federica started by joining SheCodes Free Class. She then joined SheCodes Basics and then upgraded to our advanced workshops. Throughout her SheCodes journey, she really enjoyed the structure, homework, flexibility, and community. She found that SheCodes was just what she needed in order to delve into the world of coding! 🤩 👩💻
“The course is well structured in a clear and intuitive way. My favourite parts were by far the homework at the end of each week. I found it very useful and challenging to put into practice what I had been learning during the week, with constant support from the other students and the team. Unlike other courses, SheCodes is very flexible. It is possible to attend workshops if you are studying or working and full time attendance is not required.”
“My experience learning with other women was fantastic! We always supported each other both during the weekly challenges and at the end of the various workshops I attended! I think that's one of the best things about SheCodes, creating a network of women who learn and get out of their comfort zone together.”

Federica says that learning how to code with SheCodes has changed her life. She was first able to use her coding skills in her role as a marketer and then realized that she wanted to transition into a career in coding! 😄 👩💻

I graduated in Cultural Heritage and Organisation of Cultural Events, but after a couple of years I realised that this path was not the right one for me. After SheCodes, Federica continued to study on her own, utilize her coding skills, and code some projects to showcase in interviews. She then applied to a role as a front-end developer and got the job! 🤩

Federica is loving her work so far as a Junior Front End Developer at Jet2! We are so happy for her! 😁 In a typical work week, she has team meetings and spends time on development tasks. She definitely has the chance to put her SheCodes knowledge to good use!
“Right now, we are working on the development of the new homepage across all Jet2 platforms. Once I have been assigned a specific component to work on, I use HTML, CSS and JS to create it and make it work. I then test it on a number of browsers and devices.”
Her job now is different from her previous roles in that she has more freedom to work remotely and has much more dynamic, interesting work than before. 🙌
“I love my current job both for the role itself and for its benefits. Unlike my past jobs I have the chance to work remotely and this allows me to work out of the house if I need to. The field is challenging and never static, there is always something new to do or learn. I feel very lucky especially because I have found a great team that is always ready to help me if I need it and leaves me plenty of space to study and learn more.”
Federica has many goals for her coding future and we can’t wait to see how her coding journey progresses over the years! 😍
“My goal is to continue studying and move from Junior Front end developer to a role as Front end developer in the next few years! I would also like to learn other back-end programming languages in the future and maybe even become a Full Stack Developer.”
👩💼 Advice to Future SheCodes Student
Federica says that anyone who is interested in learning how to code should go for it, because anyone can learn to code - we’d definitely have to agree! 😉 She also thinks it’s never too late to change careers. And you may just discover that coding is fun and accessible.
