Meet Benedicte, a Norwegian IT Student and Content Creator. She initially studied to become a nurse and worked in her local hospital's surgical department until she, unfortunately, got sick with dysautonomia.🏥 “When life slaps you in the face, you develop perseverance that you didn't know could exist in you.” 💪 Benedicte is also a mother to a beautiful three-year-old daughter whom she loves to spend time with. When her daughter goes to bed, Benedicte enjoys staying up for hours gathering new knowledge and staying updated on the latest tech trends. She’s truly passionate about learning new things! 📚
How she became a SheCodes Ambassador?
Benedicte’s background is in Nursing, however, she had always been very interested in everything related to computers. According to her grandma, she was troubleshooting and removing malware from her company’s computer when she was as little as four years old. 👧 In addition, her dad has always had a passion for computers, and he taught her how to build her own.
“We could often sit up for endless hours troubleshooting, breaking stuff, and making them work again. I've also had gaming as my main hobby since I was four, and much of the interest comes with that.”
Benedicte was inspired to create her Instagram account because she wanted to connect with like-minded people. Living in a small town, it’s hard to meet many people with similar interests and goals, so she wanted to expand her horizon.
“I'm an extroverted person, and I love meeting new people! I also firmly believe that it's easier to reach your goals if you completely surround yourself with what you want to achieve and manifest that you are a part of something bigger.”
After coming across SheCodes on Instagram, Benedicte was inspired to apply to become an ambassador. She was further encouraged by a fellow SheCodes ambassador, and quickly filled out the application on the website.
“When I read the acceptance e-mail, I was screaming with joy." 🤩
Benedicte completed SheCodes Pro in 2023 and explained that promoting SheCodes has been easy after taking the workshops.
“I had previously tested some other courses; nothing is even remotely close to the 'SheCodes' way. SheCodes is truly special, and having been through the workshops, you can give a lot of information on how they work to people who are curious about them. You know the product in and out and can share your complete experience with your followers. It's also really great content for your feed!” 😉
How she was her SheCodes experience?
One of the things Benedicte appreciates is that SheCodes gives back to women in developing countries through the SheCodes Foundation. She mentions that it can open doors and even change lives. She loves that SheCodes is a safe space where women can feel comfortable being themselves and ask tech-related questions without fear of judgment. Women are still heavily underrepresented in the tech industry today, so she appreciates SheCodes’s goal to change that.
“When I was younger, I didn't know a single woman working in the tech industry, and I feel like women are often steered in a direction to pursue a career in health care or education. I experienced this myself talking to counselors before applying to college. SheCodes shares the success stories of other women and highlights their work, and role models are a critical part of inspiring more women to pursue a career in tech.” 👩💻
What is it like being a SheCodes Ambassador?
Benedicte mentions that a positive aspect of the ambassador program is the community.
“The community is so warm. It consists of a diverse family of women, where everyone is welcome. I often call the other ambassadors my SheCodes family. We often do collaborations and talk together. SheCodes truly cares about their ambassadors and often reaches out to support us and provide us with information about upcoming new features and events.”
She also appreciates the financial benefits of the ambassador program. 💰
“SheCodes is quite unique with the 15% commission; not many companies offer this good commission, and it is immediately very rewarding when someone uses your affiliate code. You don't have to do a lot to make money. This has enabled me to upgrade my computer to support my coding journey, and this extra revenue gives me more freedom to focus on my learning.”
In addition to the great community and source of revenue the SheCodes Ambassador Program provides, Benedicte also greatly appreciates the opportunity to inspire and empower other women to learn how to code and make a positive impact. 🥰
“As a kid, I only knew one other girl interested in tech and gaming the same way I was. This led to a lot of bullying and feeling like an outsider growing up, and it's safe to say I did not have a lot of female friends. I never want anyone to have to go through that. Fortunately, it has gotten a bit better over the years since schools have a much bigger focus on technology, but we still have some way to go to normalize it.”
