How Naira improved her work as a Project Manager thanks to the SheCodes Foundation
๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ Before the SheCodes Foundation
She went to business school, where she studied Business Administration and Management. After university, she gained a lot of experience in project management and marketing. For the past 5 years, sheโs been working remotely as a Project Manager, Digital Strategist, and Copywriter for Katara Marketing.
Her daily tasks include organizing project requirements and resources, planning weekly work for her team, coordinating and monitoring project progress, collaborating with the team to help them prioritize and solve tasks, working on content strategy and SEO content optimization, keeping the management up to date, and providing feedback for the team. To expand her skillset and improve her work, Naira decided to learn SEO with a free course on YouTube and then decided to learn how to code. ๐ฉโ๐ป
โI think I was always flirting with coding without even noticing! Since I was little, I enjoyed being on the computer a LOT. I even had Informatics as a second choice to study at university. I went to Business school, later I got into Marketing and managed the creation of websites with designers and programmers. And then I wanted to know more, the backstage of that they do, to make myself a better manager at work.โ
Naira first heard about the SheCodes Foundation through her best friend and was so excited at this chance to learn how to code free of cost! Sheโs a very enthusiastic learner and couldnโt wait to add coding skills under her belt to improve her professional skill set and also help empower others in this field! ๐
โI think it's a huge opportunity to be part of the revolutionary world of coding. I'm an ambitious girl, but lately my career has gotten a bit stuck. I believe that coding could be a boost and a good transformation for my professional life, reaching more international projects to work on.โ
"I wanted not to learn to code just for myself, but also to share my knowledge and empower other girls in my city."
๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ป Her SheCodes Foundation Experience
โI have a lot to win and nothing to lose by learning with SheCodes. The SheCodes Foundation was a chance to boost my professional profile and aspire to better job opportunities; it was also a way to practice my English.โ
Nairaโs favorite part of SheCodes was the structure. She especially loved watching the short lesson videos, completing the challenges, and having live tech support. She also enjoyed the setup, learning with other women, and building her own portfolio.
โSheCodes was my first coding course. Its structure has a friendly way to force you to learn, practice, and DO. The deadlines are there to keep you on track and are good for not giving up. The flexibility to ask for extensions is great. At the end, you will have a portfolio to show what you have learned or the potential that you have to learn... that you are teachable.โ
โIt's very cool to connect and relate to very talented and multidisciplinary women from around the world, in the process of getting out of our comfort zones and learning something new.โ
Overall, Naira loved learning how to code from scratch with SheCodes. And sheโs proud of the projects she has to prove her new coding knowledge. ๐คฉ
โMy learning experience with SheCodes was very cheerful. Matt is a very good instructor, he showed in the classes that even a very experienced programmer can make mistakes, needs to research, and can take a while to solve things. I'm very happy with my advances and proud of my final projects.โ
๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ How the SheCodes Foundation has Helped to Change Her Life
โSheCodes, I can't thank you enough for this invaluable opportunity. Itโs made me believe that I CAN do more, that a new door is open for me. I feel proud of myself for breaking out of my comfort zone. The workshop, it's not only distracting me from the lockdown and some struggles in my country, it's giving me HOPE. I'm setting myself a goal of finding a new job in tech with a better salary and opportunities in the near future. Something that allows me to help myself, my family, friends and othersโฆ just like you are doing with me.โ
Naira believes that the SheCodes Foundation is very helpful for women who often feel powerless and limited in their environments and situations. Weโre so glad to make a difference in the lives of our students like Naira!! ๐
โSheCodes is doing such an important job through the Foundation. A lot of women around the world feel powerless and limited in some environments or situations, things are out of their control. SheCodes is not just "teaching how to code" to women. You are also giving them access to knowledge = power. The power to maybe do and be better, to aspire to better jobs and incomes, to help themselves. To believe they can do amazing things.โ
Thanks to the knowledge Naira has gained through the SheCodes Foundation, she has been able to improve her current work as a Project Manager. She now has the ability to take care of more fixes on her own, answer more technical questions from clients, better understand her projects, and better communicate with both her clients and team members. ๐
โThe SheCodes Foundation has given me a new way to approach work. I lost the fear of "breaking stuff". Now I can do more things on my own, like answer some technical client questions to explain the limitations and reach of projects. It is also much easier to communicate with the clients, programmers, and designers to accomplish things.โ
Not only has her coding knowledge helped to improve her work, it has also made an impact on how she can help her community. ๐ She will be able to better teach members of her community about front-end development and also help them realize that coding is achievable for everyone.
โSince 2019 I've been part of an institute as a workshop instructor for the module of Website Management. I can now teach more deeply about front-end. And empower or even mentor someday to women and men that believe that coding is an impossible thing to achieve.โ
Naira plans on changing careers in the future and getting a more technical role. She would love to use her coding knowledge to get a better-paying job and do something that she loves for work. Sheโd also love to continue learning and mentoring others. ๐
โI would love to get into the tech field. Learning how to code has opened up a world of new options. Itโs helpful to know how to code in the roles I'm pursuing. I don't feel like an outsider anymore in the development world. Coding knowledge has given me respect and validation from my coworkers and recruiters.โ
โIt would be lovely in the future if I do something I love for living that pays well, has a nice environment, and relates to the new knowledge I got from SheCodes. I'm going to keep learning, but also I would like to teach and mentor.โ
๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ผ Advice to Future SheCodes Foundation Students
โDon't think it twice. Just do it. You have a lot to gain and nothing to lose. If you're not totally into coding - after finishing SheCodes, you will still have changed some limited state of mind, feel better and more powerful and proud of yourself for trying new stuff by creating things, and you can always integrate these skills and knowledge somehow to any field. If you enjoy coding, you will have a solid base and a nice portfolio to jump into tech, and will be able to do something you love with better income. In any case, new doors will open. You will always win if you see this as the big opportunity it is.โ
Anyone from anywhere can learn how to code as long as theyโre equipped with the proper tools. SheCodes is honored to provide students like Naira with the opportunity to learn how to code free of cost through the SheCodes Foundation. ๐
