Tumaini

Tumaini is one of the very first students who has learned how to code through the SheCodes Foundation. 🙌 She’s originally from Dar es salaam, Tanzania, and is still living there today. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, dancing, and watching YouTube videos and movies. 

She went to university in Tanzania and got a job working for a telecommunication company called Tanzania Telecommunication Corporation after graduating. She started as an engineer in training and then got a position as a Data and Technical Support Engineer. Her daily tasks include working with network link connections and network fault clearing. 

She’s been interested in learning how to code since her final year at university while pursuing her bachelor’s degree. She realized that coding knowledge would’ve been greatly beneficial in completing her final year project but didn’t have the time and also didn’t know where to begin her coding journey as a complete beginner.

We’re so glad that she found SheCodes and it reignited her interest in learning how to code as a complete beginner!! 😍

Tumaini started learning how to code with free YouTube videos but found that the teaching techniques offered were not exactly what she was looking for. She then joined SheCodes to really kick off her coding journey - starting with the free introduction to coding class and then the hands-on coding workshops offered through the SheCodes Foundation. She was highly motivated to join after seeing testimonials from other coding beginners. 🙌

Her favorite parts of the workshops so far have been learning about API integration, Bootstrap, hosting, GitHub, and advanced CSS to build her very own weather application project in SheCodes Plus. Tumaini has also enjoyed the SheCodes Slack to ask for help along the way.

“Another difference is the use of SheCodes Slack. The Slack helped me in a way that whenever I got stuck in my code I usually asked for help or I could easily find the same question asked by other students and their solutions. When it comes to other online courses it is difficult to ask questions when you get stuck.”

Learning with other SheCoders in the SheCodes community has also been a big plus for Tumaini and has inspired her in her coding journey.

Tumaini has used her new coding knowledge to help her both personally and professionally. Thanks to the coding skills she’s gained through the SheCodes Foundation, she has started a new freelance web development job along with her tech support job. We couldn’t be prouder!! 🤩

She’s just started working as a freelance web developer at Shawn Kieffer Enterprise, House of Images. It is a photography company that deals with photoshoots, wedding photos, and similar events. She’s helping the company build their website from scratch. 💪 💻

Along with her dream of becoming a female web developer based in Tanzania, Tumaini would also like a teaching job in the future. She’d like to teach other people in Tanzania how to code.
