How Tumaini got some freelance web development work in Tanzania thanks to the knowledge she gained through the SheCodes Foundation.
🙍🏽♀️ Before the SheCodes Foundation
Tumaini is one of the very first students who has learned how to code through the SheCodes Foundation. 🙌 She’s originally from Dar es salaam, Tanzania, and is still living there today. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, dancing, and watching YouTube videos and movies.
She went to university in Tanzania and got a job working for a telecommunication company called Tanzania Telecommunication Corporation after graduating. She started as an engineer in training and then got a position as a Data and Technical Support Engineer. Her daily tasks include working with network link connections and network fault clearing.
She’s been interested in learning how to code since her final year at university while pursuing her bachelor’s degree. She realized that coding knowledge would’ve been greatly beneficial in completing her final year project but didn’t have the time and also didn’t know where to begin her coding journey as a complete beginner.
“The very first day I become interested in coding was doing my final year project at university. Almost 85% of my project was about coding. I had limited time between completion of my project and learning how to code. So I had to pay someone else to do the job.”
“After completing my bachelor's degree I promised myself that during my waiting period to get a job I had to learn how to code, but I did not know where to start, which platform should I use because I had zero coding experience. Then I came across SheCodes, and my interest started to rise again.”

👩🏽💻 Her SheCodes Foundation Experience
Tumaini started learning how to code with free YouTube videos but found that the teaching techniques offered were not exactly what she was looking for. She then joined SheCodes to really kick off her coding journey - starting with the free introduction to coding class and then the hands-on coding workshops offered through the SheCodes Foundation. She was highly motivated to join after seeing testimonials from other coding beginners. 🙌

The Slack helped me in a way that whenever I got stuck in my code I usually asked for help or I could easily find the same question asked by other students and their solutions. When it comes to other online courses it is difficult to ask questions when you get stuck.”
Learning with other SheCoders in the SheCodes community has also been a big plus for Tumaini and has inspired her in her coding journey.
