Manneken Pis Fountain in Brussels

Legends

The most famous story linked to Manneken Pis involves a 2 year old Duke Godrey III of Leuven. In 1142, his troops hung a basket from an oak tree with the 2 year old in it to inspire them during battle. The toddler stood up, and peed on the opposing troops, who lost the battle. The fountain now stands on the corner of Rue du Chêne/Eikstraat, Oak Tree Street. Many other legends involve a young boy being lost, and eventually found urinating somewhere in the city. In one story, a young boy helps stop the King's castle from buring down by peeing on the fire.
