Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York to bank employee Deloris and equipment supervisor James R. Jordan Sr. Michael attended Laney High School in Wilmington. He was notably assigned to the school’s junior varsity basketball team as a sophomore before developing into one of the country’s top recruits.
The 6-foot-6 Jordan began his professional basketball career when he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1984. Jordan soon proved himself on the court. For his efforts, Jordan received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and was selected for the All-Star Game.
