Sally Rooney is an Irish author and screenwriter. She
is mostly known for writing popular nowels titled
Conversations with Friends, Normal People and
Beautiful world, where are you. Sally Rooney was born in 1991
in Castlebar, County Mayo (Ireland). As per her academics, she attended
English and American Literature at Trinity College Dublin, the city
where she lives now.
Rooney's debut novel, Conversations with Friends, was published
in 2017. Her second novel, Normal People (2018), was a
bestseller and won several major awards, including the prize for Best
Novel at the Costa Book Awards, and was named the Waterstones Book of
the Year. Recently, she released her third novel called
Beautiful world, where are you (2021).
Her characters are young people from the artistic and intellectual
circles of modern Ireland. They meet, discuss, have fun, but also
struggle with everyday problems, illnesses and conflicts with loved
ones. They often talk via instant messaging, texting and e-mail,
compulsively browse social media and are active on Tinder.
Everyday life described in a surprisingly intriguing and engaging way is
Rooney's trademark. In addition, the writer undoubtedly has a very definite
style, which from the first sentences of the books you can either love
or hate. She writes disarmingly simply. Rooney describes the story in
meticulous detail, at times humorously, with great emphasis on emotions
and brilliant dialogues. Rooney's books contain socially important
topics, show the real dilemmas of the transition from adolescence to
adulthood and at the same time present intellectual considerations that
make you think. And while their plots deal with the social and love
struggles of specific characters, Rooney places them in the context of
broader issues of class, gender and sexual inequality.
