Birds are truly fascinating creatures. Birds are a group of warm-blooded vertebrates comprising the class
Aves, and are characterized by feathers, toothless beaked jaws, the laying of hard-shelled eggs, and a strong yet lightweight
bone structure. They live all around the world and form a diverse array of species, from the tiny hummingbird to the
humongous ostrich. They come in a variety of beautiful colors and sizes, and can sing so many beautiful tunes (some
can even speak like humans do!). Some species of birds perform dances to attract mates and perform mating rituals.
One bird in particular is very fascinating to humans, and that is the Shoebill. The Shoebill is known to be friendly
towards human beings, so long as you bow to them (literally) and show them respect. Once they see you bowing to them,
they recognize that you mean no harm and will treat you like a true comrade. They have a unique build, with a wide bill
and long legs, almost built like a grey heron. They eat primarily fish and are waterbirds.
Unfortunately, the Shoebill faces several threats, labeling them Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List.
The Shoebill can be found in South Sudan, western Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo,
western Tanzania and northern Zambia. There is a conservation plan commissioned by the UNEP/AEWA and financially
supported by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), and you can learn more about the plan
