Why, you ask?
Just keep reading, I'll tell you everything
Helianthus or sunflower is a genus of plants comprising about 70 species, all native to North and Central America (execept for three, which are native to South America).
During growth, sunflowers tilt during the day to face the sun but stop once they begin blooming. This tracking of the sun in young sunflower heads is called heliotropism.
Sunflower florets are arranged in a natural spiral having a
Fibonacci sequence.
Sunflowers is the name of two series of still life paintings by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (one of my favourite π¨βπ¨).
The first series, executed in Paris in 1887, depicts the flowers lying on the ground, while the second set, executed a year later in Arles, shows a bouquet of sunflowers in a vase.
The paintings were considered innovative for their use of the yellow spectrum, partly because newly invented pigments made new colours possible.
There is obvisously a lot more to be said about these paitings, but I
am not the right person to do so - check out some
online resources
or try and see them
IRL.
"Sunflower" is the twelfth song in
Father of The Bride
, the latest Vampire Weekend album.
This track features the Internetβs guitarist Steve Lacy, as well as proggy bass scales, frantically curling guitar licks, and even harmonized scatting. It is considered to be a return to their well-known brand of self-aware Ivy League humorous indie-rock.
The music video is set at the iconic New York gourmet market Zabars and the Upper West Sideβs Barney Greengrass and it was directed by Jonah Hill. Jerry Seinfeld makes an appearance, as do Steve Lacy and New York hip-hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy.
