SEVENTEEN (세븐틴), often shortened as SVT, is a thirteen-member boy group under Pledis Entertainment. They have three units: Vocal, Rap, and Performance. They are also considered as a self-producing group with Woozi being the main producer, Hoshi leading the creation of choreographies, and members participating in various aspects of the song, performance, and album preparations. The name derives from "13 members + 3 units + 1 group" expressing how thirteen individuals from three different sub-units come together to form one cohesive group.
The group consist of 3 units. The units being: Vocal unit, Hip Hop unit, and the Performance unit. The group was first introduced in 2012 through the online show "Seventeen TV." The group had no fixed members yet. All cast members were trainees within the average age of seventeen years old. Throughout five seasons, the trainees got to showcase their skills and personalities—earning them a considerable fanbase and amping up the anticipation for their debut. However, following the show's conclusion, the group continued to train for years. They also went through reorganization, involving the departure and addition of some trainees. After years of anticipation, the group finally made their official debut as a thirteen-member group on May 26, 2015 with the mini-album 17 Carat with the title track Adore U. They were also the first male K-Pop group to debut with a one hour live showcase on a major broadcasting channel, having been televised by MBC. Through the years, they went on to become one of the most well-loved artists of their generation.
