Baking in Brazil

In Brazil, the habit of baking came from its colony country, Portugal, and the first cake ever baked in our land was a portuguese traditional sponge cake, that was considered a delicacy and was only present at wealthy households. Today, cakes are part of our daily lives, usually served with coffee in the afternoons and we have a long list of national receipts, some made with local ingredients as manioc or coconut, and others just a different version of cakes we have around the world. The carrot cake, for example, the brazilian version is much lighter than its foregain cousins and is always accompanied by chocolate cover.
