LGBTQIA+ Pride represents a stance against discrimination and violence
toward people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
queer, intersex, asexual and more.
Pride promotes the self-affirmation, dignity, equal rights, and
visibility of LGBTQIA+ people. Pride builds community, celebrates sexual
diversity and gender variance.
Pride Month is an entire
month dedicated to the uplifting of LGBTQIA+ voices, celebration of
LGBTQIA+ culture and the support of LGBTQIA+ rights. Throughout the
month of June, nationwide, there have
traditionally been parades, protests, drag performances, live theater
and memorials and celebrations of life for members of the community who
lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. It is part political activism, part
celebration of all the LGBTQIA+ community has achieved over the years.
