The story of the Macaron.. (not to be confused with the Macaroon). Macarons are small round
meringue based confections with delicious buttercream, ganache or jam
fillings, made with only a few simple ingredients and a lot of love. The
name macaron is derived from the word ‘ammaccare’ in Italian, meaning
‘to crush’ which is quite relevant considering their interesting
texture. And how can you not fall in love with these bite size pockets
of la dolce vita, they’re a real treat.
Now, I bet you're wondering why I used an Italian reference and why the
name is derived from Italian? Well, thats because French Macarons were
in fact first introduced by an Italian pastry chef who was brought to
France by Queen Catherine de’ Medici in 1533, and have since progressed
into one of the favourite confections around the world with their
crunchy outer layer, deliciously soft, chewy centre and (now) hundreds
of varieties of brilliantly tasty fillings.
