Ocean Life

Preserving our Coral Reefs

<

According to scientists, our planet is over 70% ocean. An estimated 50-80% of oxygen production on Earth comes from our oceans. It is crucial that we do our part to protect one of Earth’s most valuable resources.

An important part of our ocean ecosystem is our coral reefs. Coral reefs provide a natural barrier that buffers shorelines against waves, floods, and storms. When these reefs are destroyed, it leaves coastal communities vulnerable to erosion, property damage, and even loss of life.

Among the factors that are causing a negative impact to our oceans are global warming, pollution, destruction of natural habitats, and unsustainable fishing. This is causing coral bleaching, coastal erosion, rising sea levels, loss of marine life, and harmful algae blooms.

What can we do?
