Sattvic is a diet based on foods that contains one of the three qualities (Gunas), known as Sattva.
The other two gunas are known as Rajas & Tamas.
Rajasic means stress, anger, activity and restlessness. Tamasic means dullness, laziness and lethargy.
Ayurveda ( medicinal system that originated in India over 5,000 years ago) emphasizes on having a Sattvic diet as it can help to lead a healthful life
and is highly popular amoung most yoga enthusiasts.
"Sattva" means anything that is pure in quality. It is the one which promotes purity of both mind and body - is a way of life and more than
vegetarianism.
Vegetables (Spinach, Potatoes, Peas, Carrots ); Fruits (Mangoes, Bananas, Papayas, Melons, Berries); Grains (Barley, Millets, Quinoa, Amaranth, Wild Rice); All type of Nuts and Seeds; Healthy Oils ( Ghee, Flaxseed oil, Sesame Oil, Olive Oil); Hight-quality dairy products(Milk, Yoghurt, Panner); Legumes and Beans(Soy, Chickpeas, Lentils); Sattvic Spices and Herbs( Ginger, Turmeric, Coriander Leaves, Cumin, Basil, Fenugreek); Sweeteners( Honey; Jaggery); Beverages( Water;Herbal Teas, other drinks that detoxify the body);
Note: The Sattvic diet excludes all Rajasic foods like: onions,garlics, coffe, deep-fried foods & Tamasic foods like: eggs, meat, fish, poultry and alcohol.
