Travelling the Greek Island of Corfu

Corfu Island

Corfu is an island off Greece’s northwest coast of the Ionian Sea defined by rugged mountains and a resort-studded shoreline.

Its cultural heritage reflects years spent under Venetian, French and British rule before it was united with Greece in 1864. Corfu Town, flanked by 2 imposing Venetian fortresses, features winding medieval lanes, a French-style arcade and the grand Palace of St. Michael and St. George.

The best times to visit Corfu are April to May and September to November. Although there is never really a bad season in the Mediterranean, you'll find that winter temperatures are too chilly to swim off the shores of Corfu, while the summer months draw hordes of tourists.

According to Discover Greece: Thirty beaches in Corfu have been awarded a Blue Flag, adorning 217km of coastline set against a lush background of forest green. And there are many others, just as wonderful.
