FEEL THE LOVE

Jamaica is known for it's delicious dishes and provisions such as Jerk Chicken or Ackee & Saltfish. Mostly commonly around the world Jamaica is associated for world renowned Reggae artist Bob Marley. Bob Marley was known for the positivity and strength messages he had in his music. Most people do not know that what is now known as Jamaica was know as "Xaymaca" meaning "land of wood and water " when inhabited by the Arawak tribes prior to the arrival of Columbus in 1494.In 1655, the English invaded Jamaica, defeating the Spanish colonists. African slaves took advantage of the political turmoil and escaped to the island's interior, forming independent communities (known as the Maroons). Meanwhile, on the coast, the English built the settlement of Port Royal, which became a base of operations for pirates and privateers, including Captain Henry Morgan. In the 19th century, sugar cane replaced piracy as British Jamaica's main source of income. The sugar industry was labour-intensive and the British brought hundreds of thousands of enslaved Africans to Jamaica. By 1850 the black Jamaican population outnumbered the white population by a ratio of twenty to one. Enslaved Jamaicans mounted over a dozen major uprisings during the 18th century, including Tacky's revolt in 1760. There were also periodic skirmishes between the British and the mountain communities, culminating in the First Maroon War of the 1730s and the Second Maroon War of 1795–1796. Jamaica eventually claimed their independence from the British in 1962 after a nearly two decade long revolution known as the "constitutional decolonization".
In present day nearly 3 million people live on the island of Jamaica. Jamaica makes alot of their money through travel and exporting goods. Jamaica makes nearly 6 billion dollars in the export of goods such as; Coconuts, Pimento(allspice), Scotch Bonnet Peppers and Ackee just to name a few. Jamaica made nearly 4.6 billion dollars last year in revenue from tourist travel. I recommend everyone go and visit Jamaica. From the food to the beautiful people it's a experience worth the trip.
