It’s time to let your outdoor space get a little wild!
After years and years of seeing perfectly mowed grass patches in movies
we’ve all been conditioned to believe this is the only viable option but
this practice strips your garden of its ecological value. As we face
climate break down and witness first handedly the results of years of
environmental disruption it’s not only necessary to protect but to
restore.
This may seem like a larger than life task but think about how many
gardens and parks are in your town/city,what if they were all rewilded
even if just in small parts?
Here is a few things you could do to:
Allow nature take its course!
let native flowers self seed on your lawn to provide pollinators with
food, in turn attracting birds and other predators to your garden. If
you live in a flat, fill a window box with insect friendly plants to
attract bees and butterflies.
Make your own compost!
Leave piles of wood and leaves to rot provides habitat for many
invertebrates, fungi, moss and treat your plants to some top notch
nutrition.
Mi casa es su casa!
Think about installing a bird feeder, a little hedgehog hut,
a bug hotel
or even creating a small pond if you have enough space. Then wait to
see all your new neighbours come and explore the area.
Explore your community
think about joining a local seed swapping group or ask local
gardeners/foragers to share some tips.
and the most important tip of all... have fun and enjoy all the new species that are thriving on your
doorstep!
Even small local actions will make positive impact on the world's flora
and fauna! 🌱
