BT21; the brand and its characters were born from a collaborative project
between LINE FRIENDS and BTS. Since its launch in 2017, the brand has
captured the hearts and minds of youths worldwide with its charming
designs, unique concept and thoughtful storytelling. Significant effort
has been made in communicating with the global fan-base in the making of
this concept, which continues to this day. The rapid growth supported by
fans has led to the expansion of the brand into the BT21 UNIVERSE.
There are eight characters in total:
Tata, Mang, Chimmy, RJ, Koya, Cooky, Shooky, and Van. Each character reflects the members of BTS
in different ways.
The group name BT21 was inspired by a comment from Suga, who thought the
characters should represent both BTS and the 21st century, so they would
live for the next 100 years.
BT21s backstory is they are a group of idol wannabes. The ever-curious
alien Tata left his home planet with Van, and saw BTS when visiting Earth.
Awed by their popularity, he was inspired to put together his own rival
group. He enlisted the other members to form the perfect idol group.
