Woven by swiftlets from their saliva, Birdâs Nest,
is one of the most popular tonics in
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Edible Bird's Nest is high in 18 distinct amino acids,
most of which are not synthesized by the human body and
must be supplied through dietary sources.
It contains aspartic acid and proline which enhance
cell regeneration while cysteine and phenylalanine have been
shown to improve memory, boost nerve impulse transmission,
and improve uptake of vitamin D from sunlight.
It also contains sialic acid and tyrosine which speed up recovery
while glucosamine helps restore cartilage in the case of osteoarthritis.
Edible bird's nests contain plenty of protein including g Glycoproteins,
a high-energy material that the body may easily absorb.
Furthermore, the edible bird's nest has 31 different elements.
It is high in calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), potassium (K), and magnesium (Mg).
These minerals are necessary for the body's normal functioning.
Another rare element found in bird's nest is Chromium, which improves
nutritional absorption through intestinal walls, and Selenium, an anti-aging
agent.
In TCM, Birdâs Nest is classified as a tonic. Ideally, it should be consumed before meals to allow the body to better absorb its nutrients.
Contrary to popular belief, the colour of red Birdâs Nest is caused by either oxidation or minerals absorbed from the environment.
Birdâs Nest has high glycoprotein content, growth factors and a neutral energetic property, which help boost a weak immune system.
Modern studies have shown that Birdâs Nest is rich in epidermal growth factor(EGF). This substance is responsible for skin and tissue repair.
Bird's Nest is traditionally used to clear Phlegm, ease chronic dry coughs and relieve fatigue. Birdâs Nest can also be used to stimulate the appetite, improve digestion and stimulate bowel movement
