🌌 Pluto and its Orbit 🌌

A Curious Thought 💭

Orbits

Pluto was discovered in 1930 and became the ninth planet from the sun. However, in 2006, Pluto was demoted to a "dwarf planet" because of its size. As a result, Pluto is now said to belong to the Kuiper belt, which is made up of icy objects similar in size. I think the most interesting and intriguing quality about this mysterious object, is its orbit. There has been too much focus on its size, not enough focus on its path. It is unlike the orbit of the rest of the planets, whose journey around the sun is more circular, while Pluto's is more elliptical (as shown in the image above). The objects in the Kuiper belt also move in a circular, ring-like trajectory, while Pluto in its eliptical motion, extends beyond the belt (as shown in the image below). I love the way it seems to wrap around the other planets, like a ribbon wrapping around this amazing gift. It makes me wonder why? If Pluto doesn't exactly meet the criteria for being labeled as a planet or an object in the Kuiper belt, then what is it? Is there a function or purpose to this strange orbit?
