True crime is a nonfiction literary, podcast, and film genre in which the
author examines an actual crime and details the actions of real people
associated with and affected by criminal events. The crimes most commonly
include murder; about 40 percent focus on tales of serial killers. True
crime comes in many forms, such as books, films, podcasts, and television
shows. True crime works can impact the crimes they cover and the audience
who consumes it.
Many individuals have consumed true crime podcasts, movies and books in
extreme fashion over the past 10 years. Within the last 5 years, unsolved
murders and crimes have become solved due to the attention brought to the
cases. Individuals will attribute their love of true crime from Sarah
Koenig's podcast show called Serial. We fell in love with the
tantilizing information she gave us throughout the episodes. There are now a variety
of podcasts, tv shows, movies and books about true crime that anyone can find a story that
they find interesting and educational.
