Scotland, most northerly of the four parts of the United Kingdom,
occupying about one-third of the island of Great Britain. The name
Scotland derives from the Latin Scotia, land of the Scots, a Celtic
people from Ireland who settled on the west coast of Great Britain about
the 5th century CE. The name Caledonia has often been applied to
Scotland, especially in poetry. It is derived from Caledonii, the Roman
name of a tribe in the northern part of what is now Scotland.
There are two seasons in Scotland June and Winter. Read on to venture
through breath-taking landscapes, quaint villages and epic castles on
this journey to the ‘Misty Isle’ .
Scotland's beauty lies in its rugged landscapes and dramatic scenery.
You wouldn't describe the rocky pinnacles on the Isle of Skye as
'pretty' but these striking landmarks, along with similar natural
structures all around the country, are what gives Scotland its
particular charm.
If there's one thing about a Skye holiday that'll leave a lasting
impression on you, it's got to be the scenery. Just driving around, you
can see many of Skye's most majestic geological features, such as the
Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and the Cuillin. But be sure to take your
sturdiest of boots and explore these unique sights on foot for the real
rewards. Skye's varied habitats also mean you'll have a chance to see
amazing animals such as otters, dolphins, golden eagles, white-tailed
sea eagles and puffins. Taking a Skye wildlife tour is one of the best
things to do on Skye!
