Composting 101

What Can We Compost?

Composting Basics

Compost is a nutrient rich, dirt-like material that enriches soil and nourishes growth.

Composting Diagram shows a pile of compost in the center
with inputs and outputs listed around the pile. Inputs include oxygen,
organic matter, minerals, water and microorganisms. Outputs include water,
heat, carbon dioxide, organic matter, minerals, water and microbes

Organic materials like food scraps and leaves decompose naturally over time; while this process takes a considerable amount of time in nature, we can generate the ideal composting environment very easily at home! Learn more about the ins and outs of composting at Common Ground Compost.
