You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day - unless you're too busy.
Then you should sit for an hour.
- Zen proverb
Meditation is a practice in which an individual uses a technique - such as
mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or
activity - to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear
and emotionally calm and stable state.
That being said, there is no one way to meditate. If closing you eyes and
focusing on a certain thought works for you that's fine. Cooking, drawing,
and yoga are all activities that can put you in a meditative state. It's
all about whatever works for you.
There are many possible benefits to meditation, but it's important that you do your own research as well, in order to find what is best for you. Research is ongoing to better understand the effects of meditation on health and other areas. But one thing is for sure: meditation is free and can be done anytime, anywhere. So why not try it for yourself?
