Rett Syndrome

What is Rett Syndrome?

Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that affects 1 in 10,000 females (and even more rarely in males) and begins to display itself in missed milestones or regression at 6-18 months. Rett syndrome leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of life: ability to speak, walk, eat and breathe easily. The hallmark of Rett syndrome is near constant repetitive hand movements while awake.

Some symptoms include:

My Sister💜

This is my sister, Anahi, she's 24 years old and she was diagnosed with Rett at a very young age. With a lot of love and hard work, she has grown to be a happy young lady. She loves her toys, music and LOVES the mirror. As a child with Rett, she had seizures which are now under control due to medicine, she has not had one in years. She hyperventilates and when this happens we have to be near her and stop her because her lips can turn purple. She hates the wind but loves to walk on a sunny day. Overall Anahi has brought light to this family, and we love her very much.

Things to remember:

Although there is no treatment yet, there is a lot of research taking place in which progress has been made.
