Pastel painting

A visual poetry

Under the Setting Sun by Karen Margulis

The true nature and definition of pastel is β€œto be dry.” It is not a wet medium like most forms of painting. That's what makes it so special.

Here's how Marie Lydie Joffre describes it:

β€œPastels get straight to the very essence as it is a direct and spontaneous medium. There is no foreign or intermediary element to come between the artist's hand, firmly at one with the pastel stick, and the support.”

Pastel painting can get expensive very quickly though. It's good to start with a basic pastel set, but you'll soon find you want to buy more and more colours. To help with that, we're having an online contest to win a free pastel set!
