House Plant Essentials

Lighting
Every living thing needs light! Doesn't it feel great when the sun touches your skin? Plants are the same way and lighting is a key factor to their happiness. Check which direction your window is facing. The direction of your window can determine how much light your plant may get on a daily basis.

Water
We all know that humans can survive without water for about 3 days. But did you know that rule does not apply to plants? Plants need water to thrive and grow but some plants don't need it as frequently than others. Some can be watered every few days while others prefer to dry out. A rule of thumb is to check your plant's soil by sticking your finger in the soil to determine if it is time to water!

Acclimation
The word "acclimation" might sound intimidating but it essentially means to allow your plant some time to "acclimate" or adapt to its new home with you! Plants can get stressed in a new environment (I mean, we all do)!

So what does "acclimating" entail?
Keep the plant in it's nursery pot for at least the first year. Make sure it has a nice place to get cozy and adjust to its new environment. Talking to you plant can help form a bond! They can sense your energy!

Every level of plant parenthood has new exciting challenges and rewards and it's never too late to try it out!
