Feminism in Electronic Dance Music

πŸ’Ώ A Brief Lesson Into The Misogyny Of EDM πŸ’Ώ

Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is one of the most popular music genres of this decade, however despite its popularity, women have been continuously underrepresented in Electronic Dance Music Culture (EDMC), making up a very small percentage of the scene. While this is a problem across all areas of EDMC, it is most recognisable in terms of DJing, and the supposed β€˜lack’ of female DJs. Mainstream media often refers to there being a β€˜lack’ of female DJs in Electronic Dance Music (EDM). Despite media suggestions, there is an abundance of female DJs, many of whom have achieved mainstream global success. The issue is that in the past, as well as in modern society, these DJs are not represented in EDMC to the same degree as male DJs.
