According to a recent
study
children are reading less and less. In 2019 just
26% of under-18s spent some time each day
reading. This is the lowest level recorded since the National Literacy
Trust's first reading survey in 2005.
While previous generations devoured works such as Charlotte’s Web,
Winnie the Pooh, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and later the Harry
Potter books, the survey shows that fewer children enjoy reading
nowadays.
The decrease in reading activities is worrisome, as reading has proved
to have many benefits.
