Oceania includes Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. Encompassing both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, Oceania has an estimated land area of 8.6 million sq km (3.3 million sq mi) and a population of over 41 million. The area includes thousands of islands, from tiny (less than 1 sq km) uninhabited islands to gigantic land masses, with millions of people, like Australia. The people of Oceania have hundreds of unique languages and cultures.
