How is it that music can, without words, evoke our laughter, our fears, our highest aspirations?" - Jane Swan
I run a home based studio located in Bexley offering piano lessons to
students from ages 4 - 100.
I believe in fostering space
for exploration and encouraging curiosity with tailored tuition around
a flexible curriculum, celebration of your growth as a pianist and a
versatile repertoire tailored to your preferences.  I
specialise in contemporary and classical music.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or if you'd like to book
a studio trial lesson or an online lesson via Zoom.
Are the lessons for you or are you looking for lessons for your
child?
Say hi, tell me about your hopes for learning the piano and let
me know what I can do for you.  😊
"Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself." - Rumi
My love for music took root and shape when I started to improvise which is something I love to encourage in my teaching. Improvisation opened me up to playing the piano and I realised (in hindsight) that play involves our authentic engagement. I know that when I am curious, I am offering an invitation to myself for my authenticity to be engaged.
I haven't finished learning and I'm sure, so long as we take breath, we haven't finished learning. Sometimes I have to remind myself that life is an experiment. Very young children are easily curious and drawn to try things out. Though we usually end up losing this spirit of experimentation, experimentation is simply to try something we haven't tried before. The deeper we go, the more nuance is introduced. Experimentation takes us to the edge of what we know and when we continuously find that edge, we expand our knowing and arrive at the beginning of the cycle again - curious and not knowing.
Curiosity invites us to that edge and the questions that I love are always open ended and flexible - what does it look like today? I know that when I play, I touch and feel the heartbeat of my practice and I am remembering that my discipline is in service to play.
When I teach with curiosity, I encourage the curiosity of my students. What remains true for me in all my lessons is that learning is a two way street. There is a beautiful saying that goes, 'Everyone you meet is your teacher' and I hope that I always bring this wisdom into my lessons.
