A Snapshot of Japan
A quick intro of Japanese culture from a non-Japanese enthusiast
Japan is an east Asian country with an abundance of cultural contributions spanning from timeless traditions, such as tea ceremonies and kimono-wearing as well as futuristic endeavours, seen in robots and bullet trains. Visiting Japan, there is so much you can do. From the snow festivals in Hokkaido to the old temples and shrines of Kyoto. From the city life in Tokyo to the beaches of Okinawa. You can picnic under the cherry blossoms in the spring in a celebration called 花見 (hanami) or take a dip in the many relaxing 温泉 (onsen/hot springs) during the chilly season. You can experience their many 祭 (matsuri/festival) where you can wear a ゆかた (yukata/summer kimono), eat tasty snacks, and play games. In terms of cuisine, Japan is well-known for their 寿司 (sushi) and ラーメン (ramen), but there are also other amazing dishes to try, such as 丼ぶり (donburi), そば (soba), うどん (udon), 弁当 (bento), カレー (curry), and more. I would also recommend checking out their convenience stores, or コンビニ (konbini), because there are many cool foods to try there. Whatever you choose to do, Japan is worth the visit.
