The Black Forest gâteau is a cake with serveral layers of chocolaty cake bases, whipped cream and cherries. But the most important part is the "kirschwasser" which is a colorless brandy made from double distillation of cherries. The kirschwasser is added to the cake bases after baking, so that the bases stay moist.

After the layering is done, the cake will be covered in whipped cream and sprinkled with chocolate flakes. At last maraschino cherries are added for the final finish.
