Fernando Llort was born in El Salvador on April 7, 1949. He had an
adventurous spirit, which led him to pursue his studies in France in
1968. He then traveled to Leuven, Belgium to study theology. His work
has a lot of religious symbolism which can be seen through doves, all
seeing eyes, and churces to name a few. Fernando Llort taught people of
the small village of La Palma to make a living through art. When you
visit El Salvador you will often see these iconic images on murals and
in souvenir shops. Many of the art you find now is made by local artists
who learned how to do his work. Among the art work are not just
paintings but wooden carved trinkets, jewelry boxes and even napkin
holders, all painted in Fernando's style.
