Leprosy (1988) is the second studio album released by Death, who are considered to be one of the most important and influential death metal bands. They are from Altamonte Springs, Florida. This album is about an apocalyptic, diseased world. The singer and lead guitarist, Chuck Schuldiner (1967-2001), also known as the Godfather of Death Metal, was amongst the first musicians to use growling vocal techniques in metal.
This self-titled debut album released in 1990 by Deicide is sometimes considered to be the best-selling death metal album of all time. The band formed in Tampa, Florida. The main lyrical theme is Satanism. The singer and bassist, Glen Benton, burned an inverted cross onto his forehead in the 90s.
French death metal band Gojira from Bayonne released their second demo album, Possessed, in 1997. It has 4 songs and includes lyrics about demonic possession and violence. When they released this demo, their name was Godzilla, which they had to change to Gojira in 2001 due to copyright issues. Since the band formed in 1996, they have played over 1000 shows.
