True crime-themed podcasts are a recent trend that provide an easy way to
learn about actual crimes and the actions of real people involved. The
subjects of these podcasts can either be about a single event or the
collective crimes of perpetrators and be told with the focus on the
criminal, victim, or investigators.
Although podcasts are one of the newest ways to inform and share these
stories with the public, the genre of true crime has many other forms such
as books, magazines, film, and television. Despite the fact that true
crime has never been more popular than it is today, the genre can be dated
back centuries and has been made popular in the more recent past with
works like Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood (1966) and Norman
Mailer’s The Executioner’s Song (1979).
