Food is tasty and even better when you have people to share it with and in the Culinary Industry tons of food goes to waste around the world. Food Insecurity has effected eveyone of us in one way or another. On the Navajo Nation the communities don't have readily access to fresh foods. Obesity continues to grow on the reservations because of sugary food items that are easily acccessed. Below are some ways to help minimize food waste.
I am from Northern Arizona from the Navajo tribe. I have been living in S.F., CA. I have been working in culinary for the past 12 years and have enjoyed learning about food through cooking and traveling. The past two years has widen my view on food as a whole. I have seen so much food go to waste and during the pandemic food shortage and waste continued to grow. This was not because there weren't enough people that needed to eat but, because there was not enough people power to process the food. This confused me because there were plenty of people that needed work. I spent majority of the pandemic working at Meals on Wheels boxing and packing food for the homeless, unemployed, and elderly. I saw first hand how important food security is. I have learned about the importance of food and teaching others to cook because one meal could save someone's life.
