Hello, there!
My name is Tiare and I'm learning to code.
Why would I learn to code? Curiosity, for one, led me to a beginner's coding course. My thought process went something like: I've learned American Sign Language, French and Spanish... why can't I learn to speak computer?! Just like any other language, the learning process was packed with funny miscommunicaitons, engaging challenges and rewarding breakthroughs. I laughed aloud (at myself), I shouted (very) aloud (at missing semi-colons and angle brackets, mainly), and most of all, I finally scratched my itch to try something completely new. My instructor, Matt Delac, opened the course with his observations on the status and future of tech. Two of his points stick with me now that I have reached the conclusion of my course, motivating me to keep exploring the Art of Code:
- In today's increasingly tech-oriented world, we are constantly interacting with computer code
- The gap between new female vs. male coders is acutally widening, not closing!
Chew on that a moment... Perhaps you'll share my sentiment: If we want to create the world in which we wish to live, shouldn't we all learn a little coding?
